Building Big Muscles - The 5 Myths You Must Know If You Want To Grow
If you want to get big, you MUST know the following muscle building myths.
More time in the gym is better. This is a complete myth and is actually harmful to muscle growth. Going to the gym every day and lifting weights will not get you bigger. It will actually set you back because you are not allowing your muscles to rest. Muscles don't "grow" in the gym. They grow during your rest periods. So if you think more is better and you are constantly lifting weights every day then you are not allowing any true growth to take place. High Intensity Training or HIT training has proven very beneficial in building big muscles. Many of these routines are 2 or 3 times a week of weightlifting and no more.
Protein doesn't matter. You will always come across some doctor that will criticize bodybuilders for taking in protein and will state that increased protein intake doesn't matter. Take a look at the doctor giving these claims. Ten times out of ten he will be either very skinny or very overweight with no visible muscular physique. Then take a look at the tens of thousands of weightlifters who swear by a high protein diet and have the muscular frames to back it up.
Machines can get you as big as free weights. Another myth. Free weights are notorious for packing on bulking muscle mass. Machines on the other hand, simply do not have this kind of track record. Now having said that, machines can be highly beneficial for building muscle mass. They just should not take the place of free weights. As a general rule (with exceptions), if you use machines, you should start your workout with a free weight exercise, and then do a secondary exercise using a machine.
Bulking up means eating whatever I want, whenever I want. Wrong! Bulking up is highly beneficial for building up the most amount of muscle mass as possible, in the shortest amount of time possible. But you have to do it right. You can't just eat once a day and pig out and consider that bulking. You still have to eat at least 4-5 times a day and make sure each meal is high in protein.
The biggest guys at the gym are the one's to listen to. This would seem to make sense. Go straight to the guys who are the largest, as they must know the secrets to building up muscle mass. But this is a myth, because usually the largest guys in the gym are also the most genetically gifted. If you have awesome genetics, then you can do whatever routine you want and your body will grow. Unfortunately, 90% of us don't have these superior genetics and can't get away with the same routines that pro bodybuilders can. We have to be more methodical and very careful about overtraining and eating properly.
