Best Chest Exercises for Men - Chisel Your Chest At Home!

The chest gets a lot of attention.

Women spend thousands of dollars on breast implants (they're real enough for me!)

And men, well, if you have ever been to the gym, you have no doubt seen all the focus the bench press gets.

The bench press IS an excellent chest and upper body strengthener, but what if you don't have access to a gym, OR you tend to hurt yourself while benching?

Here is an EXCELLENT chest exercise you might not have tried yet.

Problems With the Barbell Bench Press

Using a barbell can force your shoulder into unnatural positions that can lead to shoulder impingement and injury. The barbell doesn't allow your hands to track naturally.

Using dumbells is an easy way to reduce strain on your shoulders, as it allows your hands to rotate independent of one another as you press, preventing unnatural shoulder positioning.

That's great, but what if you don't have access to ANY weights?

Best Chest Exercises for Men - Weighted Decline Pushup on Suspension Trainer

If you have ever seen a gymnast, you know how buff bodyweight exercises can make you.

Part of what makes a gymnast's training so effective is that a lot of the movements they do take place on unstable equipment like gymnastic rings.

This requires their muscles to become fully activated, since complete muscle contraction is required for both balance AND for completing the movement.

More muscle activation = more muscle growth!

To take advantage of this, try the following exercise-

Set up a suspension trainer so the handles are a few inches off the ground (there's no need to spend $200 or more on a retail model, just do a Google search to find several tutorials on how to make a DIY suspension trainer for around $15)
Put your feet up on a chair (this angle helps to turn this into more of an upper chest exercise - the part of the chest that can often be stubborn to grow)
Push Up!

Focus on sets of around 4-8 reps, which is the optimal rep range for muscle growth. To add weight and increase difficulty, throw some pea gravel into a backpack.

Do 4 sets, and be sure to alternate each set with a set of body rows, which work the opposing, pulling muscle groups. This will help to prevent imbalances that can lead to injury.
