The Power of Walking - Walk Your Way to Health
One of the easiest to do yet the most effective workouts is walking. It is also one of the most neglected workouts. After all, you can do walking anytime, anywhere and in any mood. This activity does not require any equipment or preparation on your part. But most of the people don't make use of this great faculty given to us by God. If only you make a conscious effort to walk some distance everyday, you will be walking your way to health!
People walk in different ways. But every one can do different types of walking for getting different results. Here are a few typical walking styles and their benefits:
1) Walking with high intensity:
Take long steps and move fast using more energy. This will burn more calories and help you reduce your fat and make you energetic. Since this fast movement will cause you strain, you should walk only for 10 minutes on alternate days.
2) Sprint:
Move at the normal speed for 5 minutes and then walk as fast as you can, say for another 5 minutes. Now turn around and retrace your path moving fast but at a speed lower you're your sprinting speed. Gradually reduce you speed as you near the starting point. Do it everyday, trying to improve both the time and the sprinting speed.
3) Long Walk:
This is an activity you can practice once a week, probably on a holiday, when you will have more time to spare for doing this. You can do this for about an hour. Walk leisurely and enjoy the surroundings as you walk. This walk is highly effective in burning calories and making you feel good both physiologically and psychologically.
4) Walk to dissolve your belly:
This walk is a little strenuous. Don't do it if you have any serious ailments. As you walk, draw your belly in but don't hold your breath. Do this a few times as you walk. Practicing this for a fairly long time will make your belly lose its bulk!
5) Nature Walk:
Choose to walk in a place with beautiful natural surroundings. You can do this any time. Even a short walk will uplift your spirits. Look for beautiful places around your home or place of work. I mention place of work because you can walk even during a lunch time in a park near your office!
