Have you ever went down to the gym, thinking today you're going to hit it hard, to find out that as soon as you step out of the dressing room you're hit with chick songs?
Not trying to be too harsh over here but how is it that half of the gyms I go to play songs from women singers and the other half sticks to radio?
First off, we guys are unable to work out efficiently listening to Beyoncé - Single Ladies. Maybe the gyms are trying way too hard to attract some females into the gym, but it's now at a point where it's just ridiculous.
Why do workout songs matter?
Here is why: try bringing your own MP3 player or phone to listen to during the next workout and put some kick ass songs on it. Check out my Best New Workout Songs You Need To Add To Your Playlist Right Now to get you started. I'll be adding new workout songs probably every week so don't you worry. When you listen to these songs you'll feel energized, psyched, pumped up and motivated. The beats, the bass toughen you up. They make you want to push it harder, quicker and with bigger weights. They make you want to rest less and train more. That's the power in these songs.
On the other hand, try listening to some of the newest Beyoncé, Rihanna or Lady Gaga songs when pushing out those last reps. Well, first you'll feel like a girl. Second, those high pitches of sounds and all the high vocals make you want cry rather than work out. These songs are for thinking about life or partying (girls probably know a lot more than these two). Feel free to give it a try, I'm not forbidding it. But know this: the difference between the two can be huge when you work out.
On a separate note, this brings me to one of my favorite pieces of advice I can ever give you guys: start bringing your own music, your own workout songs to your trainings. Collect each of the songs very carefully, spend hours in front of your computer if you must, but make sure that the songs you listen to during lifting is motivating for YOU.
Trust me on this, you'll perform 120% better and you'll feel 120% better afterwards. Give it a try!
