Stop Making Exercise So Hard
It's pretty common for people to want to lose weight quickly. They're fed up with being overweight and simply want the flab to vanish. This commonly occurs during the New Year and results in huge amounts of resolutions that involve losing weight, dedicating one's self to an exercise regimen, or joining a gym. In fact, one of the busiest times of the year for a gym is around the New Year's holiday, when most of a gym's new members sign up and actually use their membership.
Despite their best intentions, people often go down the wrong path. After another round of big promises and reoccurring frustration, these same folks revert back to their old thinking, habits, and lifestyle. Plus that sudden white-hot passion for exercise and losing weight gives way to super-sized meals and more time spent on the couch.
There are some small things that you can do to avoid falling into this trap. Doing these things can make the journey towards your weight loss goal a heck of a lot easier.
Make Exercise Fun
Start making your daily exercise routine something to look forward to, instead of something to dread and eventually blow-off. Do something fun like a bike ride or playing basketball with the kids. Some people workout at home on their favorite exercise equipment while watching their favorite television program. The options are almost as numbers as your what your imagination can come up with.
Don't Over-Do It
Don't commit yourself to hours of strenuous exercise. Over-exercising leaves a person feeling both sore and exhausted. It also undermines your motivation to continue your regimen. If you plan to start a new exercise regimen, it's best to start with just a small amount of exercise at a time. This gives your body the opportunity to acclimate to the workout and allows you to slowly increase your amount of physical activity.
If you haven't done any exercise in 10 years or so, start with something easy like a single pushup. Yes - if you want to do pushups and can't, start with a single pushup. If you're struggling to get yourself off the floor, push the floor with everything you got. That kind of isometric exercise does wonders for your body and helps you burn calories while toning your muscles. No matter what you do, start with a little exercise, not the whole routine.
Add Some Variety
Another thing to help keep you motivated is to occasionally change things up. Don't do the same old exercise routine every time. Change things up a bit. When some people find success with one form of exercise and can accomplish it with little effort, they faithfully stick to it. After some time, their bodies become accustomed to that same exercise and the benefits become lost.
To achieve the maximum results from your exercise regimen, you need to vary it. Try walking one day. Then do some calisthenics the next day. The day after, spend some time swimming. Do your best to keep things fresh and interesting. Doing so will maintain your motivation, and your body will continue to reap the benefits of your fitness regimen.
There are lots of exercises that you can do that will help you feel better and burn fat. Just remember to start small and focus on building up your body to the point where you can have an easier time accomplishing that particular exercise. Than find ways to vary that routine.
Find Your Personal Trainer
If you have absolutely no idea where to start, dust-off that gym membership (or get a gym membership) and consult a personal trainer. He/She will be more than qualified to assess your situation and provide you with the guidance and direction you need. As a bonus, you'll have access to a variety of machines that will give you a great workout. If you happen to be suffering from any long-term injuries, your personal trainer will help you find ways to work around them.
Keep In Mind
It's the small things that help to keep you motivated and make your weight loss goals much more believable and achievable. Remember that weight loss doesn't happen over night. It's a concentrated effort. You may as well make it more enjoyable.
